Agente

Bay PRE Andalusian Stallion

Agente (pronounced Ah-hen-tay) is one of the best-known modern foundation sires of the Andalusian breed.  He is considered by many to be the prototype Spanish stallion.  Agente was sired by the famous Military stallion, Maluso.  He was foaled in 1959 out of a mare that was herself the product of generations of Military breeding.

Agente was 15.3 hands, bay in color, and famous for his movement.  The following comments are extracted from the section in the LIMPRE Book of Merits, written by Sr. Sanchez Barbudo, which discusses how a Spanish horse should move.

“(Recently there is) another, more elastic type.  Agente, the remarkable stallion, was a delightful sight for many horse lovers who would see in him the most desirable model, particularly in functionality.  The Spanish Military, aware of the stallion’s qualities, used him as a stud to produce, among others, Leviton, sire and grand sire of several Spanish Champions.

I first saw this horse (Leviton) at an early age and his grace of movement left me speechless.  Like his sire (Agente), he had lost some excessive movements in exchange for magnificent extensions, but above all else, for extraordinary cadence.”

Agente was so highly regarded that his photo was used on the cover of the Spanish book, Structural Characteristics of the Spanish Horse of the Andalusian Type.

His portrait, done in tile, is also displayed as part of the main entrance to the Military Stud in Jerez de la Frontera in Spain.

Agente spent his life as a Military Stud.  His importance to the breed can be equated with the Bocado sire, Nevado III who was of similar age and influence.  Among others, he sired the following noteworthy stallions:  Leviton, the number 6 all-time producer in the Spanish Stud Book and himself a Military Stud;  Jeson, the number 3 all-time producer and Champion of Spain;  Jecomias;  Lebrijano III (sire of Axis).

Agente’s impact on the Andalusian breed has been incalculable.
